Meridian’s climate is favorable for cool-season grasses. However, buffalograss is a warm-season grass that can also thrive here. But no matter which grass you have, our pros already know how to take care of it.
Here are the most common grasses in Meridian:
Your grass requires different care each season. Here are some of the basic things it needs.
Spring
When the snow melts and the temperature creeps up, grass comes out of its dormant stage. Rake up any yard debris left over from winter, mow, and start irrigating if your lawn isn’t getting enough rainfall. Put down some pre-emergent herbicide to kill off any weeds that are trying to get a foothold.
Summer
Mow weekly during the summer. Be sure to keep your mower blade sharp, and don’t cut more than a third of the grass blade each time. Continue watering, making sure your grass gets an inch to inch and a half or water a week.
Fall
Grubs, a common lawn pest, hatch in late summer or early fall. Now is the time to stop them with a good pesticide treatment. Fall is also a good time to overseed any bare or thin spots.
